Things a PhD has taught me that aren’t academic

By Ava Siena Cohen

That your timeline is yours alone. Everyone moves through life at a different pace so stay on your own track and you’ll be fine.

That communicating clearly is a really good skill to develop. It will allow you to be heard without having to shout.

To ask questions, and to care about the answers.

That whatever progress you make, however small it may be, is still progress. Be proud of the steps you’re taking on your journey.

To relish in connections. Life can be lonely, but it can also be full of interactions, if you go and find them. Some connections won’t work out, but some will stick. And make sure to enjoy the ones that do.
