Review: Donutelier

It’s not pastry, but it’s certainly more than a donut. It’s got to be one of Donutelier’s exquisite creations.
London’s newest donut shop, located in the heart of Soho right by Leicester square, is a true delight. With the patisserie branch high on my list of eats to explore in the city, I dragged a (completely willing) friend to trial out the innovative desserts. The shop, owned by Roladin, aims to combine the traditional - the donut - with the modern.
And modern it was. Not only was the aesthetic of the shop up to standard, with gorgeous displays and even more gorgeous treats, but the actual food was fabulous. After spending a solid ten minutes debating what to order, my friend and I settled on an array of options to trial. While all were delicious, we unanimously agreed our favourite was the Dulcey Peanut Caramel, with the Pistachio donut coming in at a close second. Even the coffee there was good.
What blew us away even more, though, was the smiley service we received. For a store located in one of the busiest areas of the UK capital, we expected to be rushed and hurried along. But that wasn’t the case. We were greeted with a smile, and even advised on what donuts to choose after expressing how overwhelmed we were with the options. For us, that human connection increased our love for the place.
It wasn’t without its downsides, though. While we fortunately managed to find a table, there is not much on offer in the way of seating, so you may be better off taking your donut to-go. The prices are fairly steep, too, with most of the creations coming in at around £6. It’s not extortionate, and it is certainly worth the cost, but it isn’t a cheap option for a quick bite. Nonetheless, despite the tourist hype for the place, Donutelier was a true delight for anyone with a sweet tooth.
