summer style is overrated

Summer style is overrated.
It’s a controversial opinion, I know. It’s not what you would expect me to think. Especially after spending the summer in the South of France, working as an intern in an Art Gallery housed inside a medieval castle.
Yes, I did enjoy my summer dresses, lightweight cotton, and countless pairs of sunglasses.
And yes, I did love the timeless allure that comes with dressing all in white.
But I want to posit a theory: autumn and winter style is far more classic - nay, stylish - than a summer wardrobe. I’m thinking layering, jeans in a whole mix of cuts, scarves, accessories, and the real crème de la crème, winter coats.
I think it’s the city girl hidden (not so deeply) within me.
Winter is associated with cappuccinos, snow, and the festive season. London in the lead-up to Christmas is laden with lights, sparkles. My favourite time of the year.
I never feel more myself than when walking down a London street in the grim drizzle, bootcut jeans skimming the tops of my chunky black boots. Guaranteed, I’m wearing a version of the jumper or sweater vest and shirt combination. Likely a turtleneck too.
And I know that my coat will be the centre of the look. From black leather to yellow oversized trench, I feel I am at the peak of my Londoner-ness when laden with layers and layers of warm pieces.
I like being able to tear off layer by layer of my ensemble, revealing yet another well-cut piece. It’s like a never-ending fashion show hidden within a single outfit.
Unlike the summer ‘fit that bears it all, the winter look keeps a little mystery. Saves something to the imagination.
Like I said. Summer style is overrated.
